FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Before You Press Play

Everything you need to know before you bring plant music home.

Getting Started

How does it work?

A PlantSonics device clips a sensor to a leaf and a probe into the soil, reads the tiny electrical signals moving through the plant, and translates them into music in real time — no phone, no app, no subscription. Every plant is always producing these signals; the device simply makes them audible.

Do I need an app, phone, or subscription?

No. Every PlantSonics device is fully self-contained and plays music without the use of a phone.

What is in the box?

Each device includes its sensor cables (with the leaf clip and soil probe), a USB power cable, and the operating manual. The exact contents for each device are listed on its product page.

Which device is right for me?

The Ginkgo is the best starting point for gift-givers and the curious, the Bamboo M is for people who want more options and control, and the U1 Pro is the professional-grade instrument — and it ships with our Mini Speaker included free, so it plays right out of the box. All three use the same core technology; the difference is sound range, build, and features.

About the Plants

Does this work with any plant?

Most healthy plants and trees work well — if it has a leaf large enough to clip the sensor to, you can hear it. Plants with active moisture moving through them, like ferns, leafy houseplants, and trees, tend to produce the richest, most varied music. Very thick or glossy-leaved plants give a fainter signal — with those, clipping the sensor to a flower or fresh bloom instead of a leaf often brings the music through. A well-watered, healthy plant always performs best, and a plant that suddenly goes quiet can be a sign it needs water.

Will the device hurt my plant?

No. The sensor reads existing electrical signals on the leaf surface without piercing or damaging the plant in any way. You can use the same plant as often as you like.

What if my plant isn't making music?

Most often, a silent plant means the leaf clip isn’t making solid contact — lightly mist the leaf to improve conductivity, check that the soil is moist, and make sure the sensor cable is fully inserted into the device. Plants are also sensitive to their surroundings and sometimes need a little time in a calm setting to respond. If it still isn’t producing sound, email us at info@plantsonics.com and we’ll help you sort it out.
